Horrific devastation in the town of Washington, Il. where as many as 500 buildings were damaged or totally destroyed. Approximately 120 people were injured in Washington, where the winds were reported to have reached an estimated 170 to 190 miles per hour. Looking out across the devastation, it is hard to believe that only one person lost their life.
Washington is a town of about 15,000 people, located east of Peoria.
A large portion of the community is now homeless.
Dennis Kunka managed to find his wedding photo among the rubble that once was his home.
Debris can be found for miles scattered in the fields that surround the small community of Washington.
I must say that the people of Washington seemed to be in good spirits, and were generally grateful that only belongings were lost.
