A small group of about 100 people gathered at Chicago’s Buckingham Fountain to show their support for accused US Army whistle-blower, Pfc. Bradley Manning. Monday was the opening day of Manning’s court-martial. Manning faces life in prison if convicted.
Renowned peace activist Cindy Sheehan addressed the small crowd and expresses her solidarity with Bradley Manning. “We need millions of people in the street demanding an end to economic oppression and environmental devastation. And, one of our demands is to stop persecuting whistle-blowers,” Sheehan told the cheering crowd.
Chicago is one of many stops Sheehan has made on her Tour de Peace, a cross country bicycle ride. This event was initiated by the Gay Liberation Network and World Can’t Wait.
