“I’m quite happy to be called a photographer and all of a sudden the art world has caught up with photography and they’re trying to hijack us.” -Don McCullin
We shouldn’t bring the “I’m an artist” mindset into street photography. Art is about the individual carving their will upon reality. Street photography is about surrendering to the reality that is – the pre-given.
This is the direct OPPOSITE of art, as with street photography, we capture spontaneous and unscripted moments of time. We have ZERO control over any of this. We’re merely there for the catch!
If it’s not candid, it isn’t street photography. The whole point of street, is to capture spontaneous, unscripted moments. It’s wild how some people today mistakenly include outdoor studio work as “street photography.”
