On Exhibit: “Heroin: A Love/Hate Relationship” by Chuck Jines

Spread the love

I just finished helping the folks at Gallery 7 hang 40 prints for the exhibit. There are an additional 20 prints that will be shown during the day on Friday at the heroin summit in Romeoville, but they just don’t fit on the gallery wall, so they’ll have to be excluded from the main exhibit at Gallery 7.  I’d like to thank everyone that worked to bring this about. I think this will be a powerful exhibit that’s sure to stick in the memories of many for some time to come.

The opening is on Friday, April 10th 6-8 P.M. and runs through April 22, 2015. Gallery 7 is located at 116 N Chicago Street (Suite 102) Joliet, IL 60432.

Chicago St., Suite 102, in downtown Joliet, beginning with a reception at 6 P.M. on Friday, April 10. The exhibit will run through April 22.

Chicagoland is currently suffering through a horrific heroin crisis that has overflowed from the stereotypical back alleys of the inner city into the surrounding suburbs. Freelance documentary street photographer Chuck Jines has spent the past two years of his life photographing the dark and often deadly world of heroin addiction. During this time, Chuck was able to gain rare access into the heroin community, and was allowed to chronicle the lives of several heroin addicts.

Jines described his work as “Grit Street Photography,” a high-contrast, high-grain, black-and-white style of street photography that invokes an emotional, intellectual, social or political response from viewers.

“To me, street photography is more than just taking pretty pictures. At its highest level, street photography is about provoking intellectual and social action. I try to weave art, politics, philosophy and social action into my work,” he said.

Freelance documentary street photographer Chuck Jines will offer an exclusive preview of his photographs during the HERO/HELPS forum from 8 a.m. until noon on Friday, April 10 at the Edward Hospital Athletic and Events Center, 55 Phelps Ave., in Romeoville.

Gallery Seven is a cooperative group of local artists, located at 116 N. Chicago St., Suite 102, next to the Historic Rialto Theatre, downtown Joliet. This free gallery is open to the public 10-4, Monday to Friday, and 10-noon the first Saturday of the Month. All exhibited work at Gallery Seven is for sale.
