Hello everyone! I arrived safely in good old New Orleans! Here are a few smartphone captures of my journey down to New Orleans. I’ll be in NOLA for the next several months, and I have New Orleans street and travel photography workshops available:
The Sun hung low in the southern sky as I waited for the Metra train to take me into downtown Chicago. This would be my last view of my sleepy little Chicago south-suburb for the next several months. My journey to New Orleans was about to begin.
This sub-shop on the corner of Clark and Van Buren has been open for close to 75 years.
Once I was on the Amtrak train, I put on a good movie and prepared to settle in for the night.
I generally wake up early in the morning to begin my day. I love the club car on the Amtrak City of New Orleans because there is plenty of room for me to set up a temporary office. This is a shot of the club car just outside of Memphis at about 4:30 in the morning.
As we pull into Jackson Missinghippie, the first and most overwhelming sight I see is – poverty. There seems to be an abundance of poverty everywhere one looks when you ride the train south to New Orleans.
You know you’re getting close to NOLA when you start to see things like this:
Nothing like a New Orleans shotgun house. This is where I’ll be staying for the next two months. I love the color and the character! Now I can’t wait for the journey to really start to unfold!
If you’ll be in NOLA over the winter, be sure to check out the photography workshops that I offer. Click here for more information on scheduling a >>> New Orleans Street & Travel Photography Workshops
