I had an awesome time in New Orleans over the Halloween weekend, and had many wonderful participants to this year’s street photography workshops. It’s always nice to know when I’ve made a difference in someone’s photography. I had a blast hanging out with Matt, and I’m grateful that he took the time to write the following review of my workshop.
Hi Chuck!
Thank you again for an amazing workshop! Having never been on a photography workshop or to New Orleans, I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, your thoughtfulness in explaining what to bring, the time frame, and especially including a link to a google map of the meeting location was really great! I enjoyed having some time to meet casually before the workshop to review photos, talk about some other street and social documentary photographers, and getting the chance to talk with you before we set off.
Aside from that, it’s clear that you know your craft. I have long been a fan of your work, and being able to walk around a great city like New Orleans while learning from you was nothing short of amazing. I especially enjoyed that you discussed composing and framing an image, and went a step further in watching as I took my own photos. Your critique of the photos was on point, but I really enjoyed how you pointed out how *I* was approaching the way I took them. I never thought, at 6’3″ and 300lbs, that I would ever be afraid to get close enough to my subject, yet this happened on several occasions. You made me into a better photographer in less than an hour.
I also enjoyed that you really knew the area and had no problem guiding us through New Orleans. I learned a lot from you about the local culture and left with not only some great memories, but some really great photographs. Thank you for your insight, your professionalism, and your dedication to teaching the craft. I’d also like to thank you for taking us to A Gallery and taking the time to discuss some of our favorite prints. Lest I forget, the night flash photography was amazing! I had barely dabbled before in the use of off-camera flash and, within ten minutes, I had a much better understanding of how it all tied together!
I’m hopeful to have an opportunity to come back for another workshop and to show you how far I’ve taken my skill set since meeting with you and learning. I’m so glad I was able to attend and I would urge anyone, from absolute beginner to professional, to consider attending one of your fantastic workshops. I’ll be taking another as soon as I possibly can.
Thank you for an awesome day!
